The United Press for Development Network (UPDN) has commended Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey for initiating a comprehensive decongestion exercise aimed at restoring order and enhancing pedestrian safety in the capital. This city-wide operation, set to commence on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, targets key areas including the Central Business District, Okaishie, Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, and Kaneshie.

Mayor Allotey emphasized that the initiative seeks to reclaim public spaces from unauthorized structures and street traders, ensuring that pavements and roads serve their intended purposes. He stated, “Our streets are not marketplaces. Pavements are for walking, and roads are for vehicles—not for trading.”

The UPDN's endorsement highlights the significance of this exercise in promoting urban order and pedestrian safety, aligning with broader efforts to enhance the livability of Accra.
